Articulation and transfer are often used interchangeably, but they play distinct roles. Discover how articulation supports curriculum and transfer planning, with insights into tools like ASSIST and frameworks guiding transfer to the California State University and University of California.

SLO Essentials - Outcomes that Guide Learning

Presenter: Seaneen Sullinger

Strong Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are the foundation of effective course design and student learning. In this interactive, hands-on workshop, participants will use their own courses in Canvas and/or CourseDog to review Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), course objectives, course content, and assignments. Faculty will examine how these components align to support student learning, explore the characteristics of clear and measurable SLOs, and identify opportunities to strengthen course alignment. Participants will leave with practical strategies and at least one revised or newly developed SLO that they can implement in their course. 

DSPS: Accommodations & Services

An experiential session designed to highlight how DSPS services support students, a chance to interact with programs and tools which are available to students, and a formal introduction to the NEW Faculty Dashboard feature in our case management system.

Shortened Courses Pros and Cons

As colleges increasingly explore shortened course formats, 8-week courses offer both opportunities and challenges for faculty and students. This session will examine the potential benefits and drawbacks of accelerated courses, including student engagement, learning outcomes, workload, retention, scheduling, faculty instructional practices and the institutional-level changes that will need to be implemented to support student success.

Best Practices for Online Teaching and Learning

Join your colleagues for a faculty-led, deep dive into the human side of distance education. We're focusing on what truly matters: building authentic, high-impact connections with our students without burning out in the process. We will share "boots-on-the-ground" strategies for making online teaching more interactive and manageable.

The Arts are the Community in Community College

This session highlights the transformative impact of music, visual arts, and the Western Stage on both the 杏吧传媒 community and the city of Salinas. Attendees will explore how arts programs foster student success, enrich campus life, and strengthen community connections. The session will showcase performances and artistic collaborations that demonstrate the lasting value of the arts at 杏吧传媒.

Next Level SLOs  - Using Results to Improve Learning

Presenter: Seaneen Sullinger

Effective assessment goes beyond collecting data鈥攊t uses evidence to improve student learning. In this interactive, hands-on workshop, participants will use their own courses in Canvas to review SLO assessment results and explore practical strategies for interpreting assessment data, identifying meaningful trends, and documenting improvement efforts. Faculty will use assessment findings to inform teaching and course design decisions and develop an action plan to strengthen student learning. Participants will leave with practical strategies and a documented action plan for using SLO assessment results to improve student learning in one of their courses.

AI: Where are we now?

Presenter: Steven Lisowski

An overview of recent AI trends, impacts and what it means for our future. The session will cover a brief history of AI, look at tools, especially educational offerings, and engage in discussion of the future in an AI infused world.

This is a sample of the non-credit personal finance course that we now offer (BUS-660).  We will cover Roth and Traditional IRAs, investments, and life insurance in this session. 

Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI)

With the impending ACCJC visit, online classes will be reviewed to determine if they meet the requirements for regular and substantive interaction (RSI). This session will review the ACCJC rubric requirements and the expectations for online course design.

A discussion exploring the intersection of faculty mental/emotional health, idealized instructors, and social pressures on the classroom. It will be an opportunity for faculty to discuss and reset their ideas on what they think it means to be a faculty member at a community college by challenging social beliefs so faculty can begin with a clean sheet.

Canvas Discussions: RSI and SLO competency in the same tool

Threaded discussions are a powerful tool for integrating Social Interaction in your teaching. Learn how to leverage RSI and SLO completion in your courses using threaded discussions. This workshop will provide you with ideas and sample policies that accomplish many of the requirements of RSI.

AI - The Elephants In The Room

Love it or hate it, we've moved from the Age of the Anthropocene to the Age of AI.  This session will be a follow-up to this spring's South County STEAM Arts Empowerment Showcase event: "Activating Artists and Agency in an Age of AI." A collaboration among faculty and IT, the event addresses the tensions wrought by the rapid advance of AI, while pointing towards potential positive solutions.  

2+2 Pathways: How to develop partnerships with transfer partners

Presenter: Matthew Curry

Come learn about Hartnell's efforts to develop streamlined transfer pathways with partner universities. Participants will learn about barriers to transfer as well as approaches to overcome these obstacles as staff, administration, and faculty. Attendees will take away concrete next steps they can implement in developing streamlined transfer pathways of their own.

Hands-On Arts - The 5 Perceptual Skills

Presenter: Trish Triumpho Sullivan

Hands-on drawing to introduce the Five Perceptual Skills, how important they are to recognizing spacial relationships, critical thinking and problem solving - all right brain work and a whole, or life skill. Once learned, critical thinking and problem solving skills are in your toolbox forever, just like walking, language, driving, riding a bike, etc.

This session will introduce faculty to requirements and tools for designing and delivering accessible online courses that support the success of all students. Participants will explore key accessibility considerations for course materials. Academic Impact of Basic Needs: Data, Equity, & Faculty Partnerships

This session will provide an overview of 杏吧传媒鈥檚 Basic Needs initiatives and highlight how these services support student success. Participants will explore the Basic Needs Data Dashboard, which examines key student success indicators such as retention, course success, persistence, and completion among students who access Basic Needs services. The presentation will also review disaggregated data by race/ethnicity, age group, gender, first-generation status, and income level to better understand the equity impact of these supports. Faculty will learn how basic needs insecurity affects student learning and identify practical ways to increase awareness and referrals to campus resources that help students persist and succeed.

Behind the Scenes - Gallery Tour of Building J109B (MAX 25 participants)

Come behind the curtain for a friendly, insider walk through our galleries and art-making spaces at Hartnell. I鈥檒l lead a small group through the heart of our program at Hartnell College, stopping in working studios, gallery spaces, and the vault where our permanent collection of over 1500 objects is stored.  I will pull out some special objects from our permanent collection that regular visitors don't get a chance to see. 

Canvas Support Open Lab Hour

Need help with Canvas? Drop in during this open lab session for hands-on support with your online course. Faculty can bring questions, troubleshoot issues, and work directly on their Canvas courses with support available. Whether you鈥檙e new to Canvas or looking to improve an existing course, this flexible session provides dedicated time to get help, work through challenges, and build confidence using Canvas.

Communicating in clay (MAX 20 participants)

Presenter: Johanna Keefe

Please Join us in the newly remodeled Ceramics Studio and Glaze Laboratory in J Building room J104 and get your hands dirty! We will be taking some time to unplug, lock-in, and practice communicating in the physical media of clay. All participants will spend a 50 minute instructor guided hand building session constructing a slab built HARTnell souvenir cup. Finished signed pieces may be picked up at a scheduled location (after firing) later in the semester. We can accommodate 20 participants for this activity!

Transforming Education Through Simulation (MAX 30 participants)

Transforming Education Through Simulation highlights how the Simulation Center enhances student learning by bridging classroom knowledge with hands-on clinical practice in a safe, supportive environment. This presentation will explore the role of simulation in developing real-world decisions, confidence, teamwork, communication,  and leadership. Faculty will also learn how simulation can strengthen curriculum outcomes, promote student success, and prepare graduates for the real-world.
